A pic I commissioned from :iconchica-the-little-cat:

Remember the heart breaking scene in The Sword in the Stone where Arthur becomes a squirrel. The part where Merlin changes Arthur back, breaking the heart of that sweet little female squirrel always upset me.

In this version, Arthur decides to take a different path.

I just watched the movie again. (I only saw it once, when I was 4, never again since then), but I clearly could recall that moment. I'm really sad for her. This drawing brings a lil' smile. Thanks for that.

If only the squirrel became a girl...none of the mess with Guenivere would have ever happened!

It could work, although I still like the idea of Arthur staying a squirrel. Maybe if they could shift between the two forms.

Only problem: squirrels usually don't have the same lifespan as humans.

Well, a little magic can fix that problem.

Depends on who the writer and what state Merlin's in to get that done.

(though I say maybe Mim could sneak in and pull some squirrel business)

Might also be interesting if they could shift between species, but even as squirrels they would still age as a human rate. Or at least if their squirrel forms do age faster, their human forms wouldn't, so, say spend two weeks as a squirrel and change back human, you're human form will be two weeks at human aging older if that makes sense. That way, neither has to give up the lives they know entirely. They could also use being squirrels as a way to relax if they're in a safe place.

Clearly Arthur was an idiot when he can't see a good thing when he comes across it or in this case her!
I mean, seriously this movie needs a sequel and complete the squirrel's story arc.
I just hope they don't make it into a re-hashment of Twilight. That would totally ruin not the sequel but the first film.

My worry is that they'd have her become a human. While I can see it working and it probably would be what would be best for them, a part of me wants them both to remain squirrels and live happily ever after as squirrels. I know there's destiny and all, but with fiction (I'm not sure how much truth there is to the legend of King Arthur), isn't the whole point that your imagination is the only limitation?
Maybe it's the part of me that likes "Wart" as the clumsy but still sympathetic and lovable kid that wants to see him stay with the squirrel. Yes, he's young enough that giving her what she wants is probably not an option, but he can still snuggle with her and rub her belly and stuff.
